Nasal Profile in different Skeletal Occlusions

Abstract
Background: Facial is different among various populations, However, none of the available studies had assessed nasal morphology in Sudaneses with different skeletal malocclusions. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to compare nasal morphology among Sudanese sample, with skeletal class I, II and III relationship, to study gender difference in nasal morphology, and to compare the results with other study results on other populations. Materials and Methods: All patients were of Sudanese background and had a lateral cephalogram as part of orthodontic records. 233 cephalogram was included in the study, Upper and lower facial height, nosal height, length and tip projection, were measured by the main investigator. Conclusions: Sudanese males have increased facial heights with more prominent nose than females, also the nasal parameters are correlated to the
underlying craniofacial structure, are larger in patients with class III skeletal occlusion than those with class II skeletal occlusion. Ethnical variety has been observed and the results were comparable to other studies on different populations. The nose, the most prominent facial feature, is related to gender, upper facial height, skeletal occlusion and ethnical group, so should be considered during diagnosis and treatment planning.
