(a) C57BL/6 mice were fed with NPChow-glucose (n = 5) or NPChow-ethanol (n = 6) and consumed similar amounts of diet. Likewise, A/J mice fed with NPChow-glucose (n = 3) or NPChow-ethanol (n = 3) showed the same results. (b) Mice body weights were measured weekly. Only C57BL/6 mice fed with NPChow-glucose significantly gained weight during the treatment when compared with C57BL/6 mice fed with NPChow-ethanol. Statistical differences between the diet consume were evaluated by Mann-Whitney test and the weight gain by ANOVA two-way test followed by Bonferroni post-test, *P < 0.05 and **P < 0.001.
