Abstract

Background of the study: Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) is protection from verbal and physical abuse, disrespect, and discrimination during care. RMC maintains dignity, privacy, confidentiality, ensures freedom from harm and mistreatment, and enables informed choice and continuous support during labour and childbirth.

Aim: “The aim of the study is to assess the Effectiveness of structured teaching programme regarding respectful maternity care among staff nurses of obstetrics and gynecology ward in the Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital and District Women Hospital, Bareilly, U.P.”

Objectives: To assess the knowledge regarding respectful maternity care among staff (Nurses) of Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital  and District Women Hospital ,  Bareilly, U.P.

Methodology- A Quantitative approach with quasi experimental ( Non – randomized control group ) research approach was used . Nonprobability purposive sampling was used for select the 60 staff nurses who were registered in Obstetrics and Gynecology ward in Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital, Bareilly and District women hospital Bareilly. Self – structured questionnaire was administered with pen and paper method to collect the data. Pre – test sampling was conducted on the same day Structured Teaching Programme was given & after a period of 7 days post – test was observed.

Result and findings- Data analyzed by using SPSS version 26 (Descriptive and Inferential Statistics were used mean , median , range , frequency , percentage , standard deviation , chi – square & paired and unpaired ‘t’ test ). The data represented that the mean post-test knowledge score (23.83±2.87) of experimental group was significantly higher [ t ( 58 ) = 22.97 ; p<0.05] than the mean post – test knowledge score (6.73±2.88) of staff nurses of control group also showed the effectiveness of structured teaching programme . Chi square test revealed that there was significant association between the knowledge score and gender.

Conclusion: the finding of the study reveals that after the implementation of structured teaching programme the knowledge score level was improved regarding respectful maternity care. Hence the structured teaching programme was effective.
