Abstract

Background: Recent advances in the technology have increased the demand for aesthetics significantly. In this era of highly competitive and advanced market demand it is imperative to analyze the knowledge about the method of shade selection among dental professionals.

Methodology:  A cross sectional study was conducted among 150 dental professionals. A questionnaire was prepared using previous research which included demographic details of the participants and knowledge domain of method of shade selection. Data was analyzed using spss software version 25 and distribution tables are drawn.

Results: Majority 34% of dentists answered: “Knowledge,” is essential during shade selection and 28.40 % of dentists answered: “Hue,” plays the major role in shade selection. 38.60% of dentists responded that “light source,” most affects color perception. And mostly 37.20% of dentists answered: “5 to 10 seconds,” is the ideal time required for shade selection. 87% responded that age, sex, and gender of the patient play an important role in the shade selection.

Conclusion: The knowledge gap which was obviously shown with the results of this study needs to be addressed and understanding of the science of colour and colour perception is important if success is to be attained in the ever-expanding field of aesthetic dentistry.
