A Pre-Experimental Study To Assess The Effectiveness Of Structured Teaching Program On Knowledge And Attitude Regarding Ill Effects Of Tobacco Use Among The Attenders At Opd Of Rmch, Bareilly (U.P)

Background: Tobacco is an agricultural product extracted from the leaves of several Nicotiana plants. When combined with nicotine tartrate, tobacco becomes one of the most commonly abused recreational drugs. Nicotine is a naturally occurring stimulant in tobacco and may be toxic if taken in high enough doses (this is not the amount of nicotine absorbed by tobacco use).
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of structure teaching program among the attenders at OPD of RMCH regarding ill effects of tobacco use
Material and methods: A Quantitative research study was done. A pre-experimental, one group pretest, posttest design was adopted for the present study.
Sample: The accessible population for the study consist of OPD attenders.
Sample Setting: The study was conducted in Rohilkhand College of Nursing Bareilly.
Sample size: 50 sample were selected by Purposive Sampling Technique.Data was collected using Self Structured Knowledge Questionnaire. The collected data was organized in Master Data Sheet and analyzd using Descriptive and inferential statistics as per objective of the study using SPSS, version20 software.
Results: The mean post test knowledge score (17.28) was greater than the mean pre-test knowledge score (7. 32) with the mean difference of 9.96.
The calculated t value was (t=31. 31) more than the tabled value (t (49) =2.01).Hence there is significance difference in the mean post-test knowledge scores; it shows the effectiveness of teaching programme regarding ill effects of tobacco use.
the mean post-test attitude scores (33.08) were greater than the mean pre-test attitude scores (29.42) with the mean difference of 3.66
The calculated t value was (t=6.86) more than the tabled value (t (49) =2.01).Hence there is significance difference in the mean post-test attitude scores; it shows the effectiveness of teaching programme regarding ill effects of tobacco use
Conclusion: Structured Teaching Programme, is effective teaching method to teach the participants and also help to enhance the knowledge of the OPD attenders regarding ill efffects of tobacco use.
