Abstract

Background: The science of yoga is an ancient one. It is a rich heritage of our culture. Yoga provides one of the best means of self-improvement and gaining full potential of one’s body, mind & soul.  The effect of yogic practices on blood pressure in diabetics has not been investigated well. Aim &objectives: To compare effect of yoga on blood pressure in diabetic patients before and after doing yoga. Material and methods:  A total of 50 diabetic patients in age group 35-55 years were taken. Effect of Yoga on BP was assessed after 3 months. Results: The blood pressure came under control in 15 days and the effect was sustained. There was significant decrease in Systolic BP and Diastolic BP in diabetic patients with p value<0.01 after doing yoga. Conclusion: A significant improvement in the blood pressure occurred in subjects who have practiced Yoga for 3 months duration. There was also lowering of the drug requirement & incidence of acute complications was decreased.
