Abstract

Purpose: systematically review the chronology and sequence of dentition as a standard of measurements to identify ethnic dental characteristics.

Procedures: review and analysis of previous academic sources to discover provisions and possible gaps around the chronology and sequence of dentition as a pattern of measurements to identify specific dental characteristics in the population.

Results and conclusions: teething is a phenomenon within the general development process subject to variables regarding the calcification of dental follicles, chronology and sequence, genetic and physical characteristics and nutritional level in the first years of life. Studies show that the Amazonian ethnic group presents dental eruption in normal parameters and bite force superior to other ethnic groups; Furthermore, some significant differences were detected in the evolution of third molar eruption in different ethnic groups, indicating that population-specific standards could improve the accuracy of forensic age estimation based on third molar eruption.
