Abstract

Over the past few decades, dentistry has consistently tried to be a pioneer of regenerative medicine by constantly attempting to re-establish the pulp-dentin complex among other tissues of the periodontium and bone as well. Key elements of regenerative endodontics include growth factors, stem cells and a scaffold which could be natural or synthetic. Natural scaffolds have two main advantages over synthetic scaffolds which are being superior in biocompatibility and possessing enhanced bioactivity. Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) was introduced in the year 2001 by Choukrounwhich is one of the most common scaffolds used in regenerative endodontic procedures. Modifications in the relative centrifugation force and the duration of centrifugation have led to the formation of improved PRFs in terms of physical properties, number of platelets and superior growth factor release all of which eventually result in an accelerated rate of regeneration.
